Tried & Tasted: The Protein Ball Co.

Boasting six unique flavours and three clean protein sources, the gluten-free, vegetarian protein balls from The Protein Ball Co pack in the nutritional benefits of simple, healthy ingredients with high, all-natural protein for the ultimate easy-to-eat, on-the-go snack.

There’s really nothing not to like. Not only are they properly convenient but seriously tasty – and surprisingly satisfying. Take these Goji & Coconut balls, made with 15% plant-based protein.

Combining raw pitted dates, cashews, goji berries, flaked desiccated coconut, chia seeds and plant based proteins (including organic pea and organic brown rice), these vegan balls are rolled in cacao powder for what’s essentially a healthy take on a chocolate truffle.

Another vegan favourite are the Lemon & Pistachio, which have a slightly fresher, slightly fruitier flavour perfect for keeping you going on long summer days.

From the whey range, we can’t get enough of the Peanut Butter while nut-lovers will similarly fall head-over-heels for the Coconut & Macadamia – both packing in 22% protein per portion. The Cacao & Orange is also made from whey, and it’s difficult to go wrong with a combination as classic as chocolate and orange. Made from a handful of cashews, crunchy cacao nibs and raw pitted dates, rolled together with whey protein (from grass-fed cows) and coated in a fine cacao powder, Christmas really has come early with this healthy, subtle version of the festive favourite.

Last, but by no means least, the Cherry & Almond. Combining a sweet handful of raw pitted dates, free-range egg white protein, juicy sultanas and sour cherries, this is the sweetest flavour of the bunch and for fans of a Cherry Bakewell these really are the cherry on top of the cake.

So what’s the catch? They’re not cheap (around £1.80 per pack), and they’re not entirely easy to get hold of. Stockists are so far largely limited to health food stores such as Planet Organic, Infinity Foods and Holland Barrett, as well online through the company website. Are they worth it? YES. Without a doubt. They’re also so good we’re sure it won’t be long until the supermarkets get involved, making it a whole lot easier for you too as well.
