Tried & Tasted: Divine Fairtrade Chocolate

Christmas is coming and for many of us that means one thing: chocolate. From advent calendars and hampers to chocolate santas and selection boxes, this is the season to treat yourself and what better way to get in the festive spirit than with Divine.

Not only is Divine a tastier chocolate, it’s also a fairer chocolate. Divine is the only Fairtrade chocolate company co-owned by cocoa farmers, with all of its products carrying the Fairtrade Mark. This means Kuapa Kokoo (a co-operative of over 80,000 cocoa farmers in Ghana) benefits not only from the Fairtrade premium on the sale of their beans, but a 44% share of Divine’s distributable profits, long-term trading contracts, decent health and safety conditions and extra social premium payment for the farmers to invest in their own community programmes.

Better prices and better working conditions all result in a noticeably better chocolate. Made with the finest quality cocoa beans from Kuapa Kokoo, the cocoa is grown in the shade of the tropical rainforest and slowly fermented and dried in the sun by the farmers. All ingredients are selected for their premium taste and quality, as well as being sourced from Fairtrade producers around the world. Take the new Dark Chocolate with Pink Himalayan Salt.

Sweetened with sugar from Kasinthula, a Fairtrade co-operative in Malawi and flavoured with creamy vanilla from Fairtrade farmers in Madagascar, this chocolate is free from palm oil, GMO ingredients, artificial flavourings, colourings and preservatives, as well as being Kosher certified and suitable for vegetarians and vegans. It also tastes pretty incredible. Combining the melt-in-the-mouth sweetness of 60% cocoa solids with the salty crunch of nutrient-rich Pink Himalayan Salt, this really is Divine chocolate at its very best: rich, creamy and extraordinarily delicious. We’d even go so far as to say it’s the best chocolate we’ve ever tasted.

Another good way to properly indulge in the Divine experience is with their new Chocolate Tasting Set. From Milk Chocolate with Toffee and Sea Salt to White Chocolate with Strawberries, this 12-bar tasting kit might have been designed to share, but it’s so good you’ll struggle not to demolish the lot yourself.

And why not. It is (nearly) Christmas after all.
