Shortlisted for two categories in the 2016 FreeFrom Food Awards (Meaty & Fishy Ready Meals and Veggie Ready Meals), Yorkshire Provender might already have two Great Taste Awards under their belt, but this family-run business is fast becoming as well-known for their gluten-free credentials as they are for the quality of their fresh soups.
There are currently thirteen different flavours of soup available – twelve of which are gluten-free, with the remaining Root Veg & Pearl Barley soon to be replaced with the gluten-free summer favourite Asparagus Vichyssoise with Minted New Potato. All recipes are kept seasonal and locally sourced where possible, the vegetables prepared by hand in their own North Yorkshire kitchen and finished off with fresh, vibrant herbs grown locally during the summer months. The result is a range of seriously fresh, moreishly tasty soups, representing the best of classic British flavours but with a reassuringly homemade feel. Here’s a few of our favourites:
Chicken and Butternut
You can’t go wrong with the wholesome flavours of this Chicken and Butternut Soup with Lentils and Cumin. Think sweet butternut squash, tender shredded chicken and gentle, warming spices against a hearty base of spinach, parsnip, potato and lentils. The ultimate chicken soup for the soul.

Combining the classic flavours of cauliflower, cheddar cheese and ham, this souped-up version of the family favourite is cheesy, creamy and yet surprisingly clean.

Pea & Spinach
It’s easy to see why this is one of the two soups shortlisted for the 2016 FreeFrom Food Awards. Smooth, silky and perfectly seasoned, this luxurious green soup combines the sweetness of peas and tang of spinach with just a dash of cream and fresh herbs for an all-season soup that’s delicious served hot or cold.

Super Broccoli & Lancashire Cheese
More creamy than cheesy thanks to the addition of potatoes, double cream and milk, this thick green soup is as rich and velvety as before, with a more rustic, earthy base of tender broccoli and leeks.

Indian Spiced Vegetable
Inspired by an elephant ride in Mumbai (really!), this lively ‘world soup’ packs spice and unexpected flavour into your standard vegetable soup – the distinctive blend of spices (cumin, ginger, chilli, turmeric, paprika, garlic and fresh coriander) adding depth and authentic Indian flavour to carrot, sweet potato, red and dark speckled lentils.
